Na temat płyty wypowiada się recenzentka z miesięcznika TAS:
'Simply irresistible.' The Alternative Sound (10/2011)
At the first sight Generic Brand Name’s “Bricklayer’s Son” appears to be another compilation of gloomy ballads about harshness of life, cruelty of love and peacefulness of death. However, there is certain magnetic power in the minimalistic cover of the album which attracts attention and simply does not allow to pass by without noticing it. After looking at the track list one becomes even more intrigued - the titles, which are witty word plays, more or less subtle references to both high and popular culture as well as an interesting mixture of three different European languages, promise multicultural and postmodern feast.
Dualistic in nature, as both autobiographical and universal, lyrics and the guitar with specific, personal edge additionally refreshed by disturbing industrial sounds combined with the vocal create music known and unknown, passionate and peaceful, old and new - all at the same time. A perfect example would be “The Patron Saint (of Ugly Ginger Poofs)” in which the classical pattern on psalm is accompanied by the electronic keyboard imitating the sounds of the organ and creating something fresh and new out of perfectly known elements. But the real diamond among pearls is “A Short Essay on Sociopathy”. This short, passionate and disturbing both emotionally and psychologically piece is simply the embodiment of the eponymous.
“Bricklayer’s Son” is the personification of Postmodernism itself, so difficult to grasp in the age when everything becomes mainstream and tangible. This album, the strange mixture of genres, sounds, emotions, is simply irresistible.
