to say it shortly; In old-english they were called: "buttorfleoge"
"Butter"= because butterflies are yellow like butter, and becuase they steal butter(like you said x3)
In Old-dutch they were called it "boter-dief" (butter-thief) or "boter-schijtje" (litterally translation: butter-shit x3)
